ZA ONDEKOZA which has shown the world the marvels of the powerful Japanese drums, and OKI, the Lucky Adventurer of the Ainu World, make their first appearance together.
Amnesty International Japan will hold a charity concert on December 10th, International Human Rights Day, to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of the adoption by the United Nations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The concert will feature the Japanese drum ensemble, ZA ONDEKOZA, and OKI, now active at international and domestic rock festivals with his modern restorations of Ainu music.
Japan’s traditional art of drumming and the Ainu music of OKI, have both been big hits in the world music scene. And worldwide attention has been drawn by the Japanese government’s long-awaited recognition of the Ainu people as an indigenous peoples of Japan, but there have been few opportunities for anyone outside of Hokkaido to hear their music.
Please attend this concert. It will be a rare opportunity for you to get to know the splendid culture of the Ainu People and to discover that the existence of different cultures and of discrimination within Japan.
