While the Covid-19 crisis is continuing and has severely impacted the health of millions throughout the world, there is another ongoing crisis that is already threatening our right to health, and it is set to get worse: the climate crisis.

Heatwaves throughout the world are impacting the health of children and the elderly the most, as recently during the heatwaves in Europe. Floods such as in Bangladesh can lead to the spread of waterborne and vector borne diseases, as sanitation and drinking water gets polluted by the incoming rain and seawater. Air pollution through increasing forest fires in North America are impacting the health of many each year.

Join us to learn with youth from all over the world about the climate crisis, how it connects to human rights and health and what we all can do to make a difference!

This workshop will be interactive and participatory, meaning it won't be one of those boring one-way lectures. Instead, you will be able to actively learn from your peers from all over the world as well as your teachers through breakout rooms, quizzes and more!

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • How our right to health is impacted by the climate crisis
  • Who the most vulnerable are to health impacts by climate change and who is responsible
  • What can be done to reduce negative impacts on health and what take action we all can take to enact the change we all want to see

Furthermore, you will also receive a certificate verifying your participation! There will be subsequent projects and activities following this workshop of which we hope will lead to you becoming part of one of our action groups.

 

新型コロナウイルス感染症が世界中の何百万もの人びとの健康に影響を及ぼす中、私たちの健康に対する権利を脅かし、悪化させようとしているもう一つ危機があります。それは気候危機です。

最近のヨーロッパの熱波をはじめ、世界中の熱波が子どもや高齢者の健康に特に影響を及ぼしています。 バングラデシュのような洪水は、流入する雨水や海水によって衛生設備や飲料水が汚染されるため、水系感染症や生物媒介性の病気の蔓延につながる可能性があります。北米で増加する森林火災による大気汚染は、毎年多くの人たちの健康に影響を与えています。

健康の権利と気候変動がどのように関係しているのか、そして私たちに何ができるのかについて考える、インタラクティブで参加型のワークショップに参加しませんか。

世界中のユースの人たちと一緒に、少人数のブレイクアウトルームやクイズなどでお互いから学び合うことができると同時に、専門家からお話を伺うことができる、とても貴重な機会です！

  • 私たちの健康に対する権利は、気候危機によってどのような影響を受けるのか？
  • 気候変動による健康への影響に対して、最も脆弱なのは誰で、誰が責任を負っているのか
  • 健康の権利を気候危機から守るために私たちができること

最後まで参加された方に参加を証明する修了書をお渡しします。

Anyone between the age of 14-30 interested in the issue of the right to health and climate change. This workshop will be held in English. We recommend that participants have at least a conversational level of English. ■ Ying Zhangさん

Ying Zhang

Dr Ying Zhang is an Associate Professor at the School of Public Health, University of Sydney. Ying is a senior epidemiologist, a dedicated researcher and educator on climate change and global health. Ying is the Co-Chair of the Lancet Countdown Australia on Health and Climate Change and the Convenor of the Sydney Sustainability, Climate and Health Collaboration and Co-Lead of the Heat and Health Research Centre at the University of Sydney. Ying has leadership roles at various health organisations, including being a council member of the Australasian Epidemiological Association, previous board member of Climate and Health Alliance Australia, and member of the World Health Organisation Civil Society Working Group on Climate change and Health.

Sanhita Ambast is a research and policy advisor at Amnesty International, where she worked on various aspects of the right to health. She has conducted research on sexual and reproductive health and rights, rights during economic crises, and the rights of health and essential workers, in many countries, including Nepal, South Africa, Spain, Greece, and the USA. She graduated from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore. She has completed an LLM from Harvard Law School, and an MA in law and diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, specializing in international human rights law.

Marinel (25) is an advocate for climate justice and the environment. She has spoken to world leaders during the opening of the UNFCCC COP 21 in Paris and in UNFCCC COP 25 in Madrid. Currently, she is taking Masters in Environmental Management at Duke University - Nicholas School of the Environment. She is also the Advocacy Officer for Ecological Justice and Youth Engagement of Living Laudato Si' Philippines.

Chris Kozak is a climate crisis education consultant and member of Al Gore's Climate Reality Leadership Corps, as well as Amnesty International Tokyo English Network (AITEN). His activism focuses on helping people of all ages understand the science of global warming while maintaining a positive focus on solutions.

気候危機教育のコンサルタント。アル・ゴア氏のクライメート・リアリティ・リーダーシップ隊のメンバー。あらゆる年齢層の人たちが、どうして地球温暖化になるのかを理解し、積極的に解決しようとすることに焦点を当てて活動している。Amnesty International Tokyo English Network (AITEN)のメンバー。

■ Bjoern Schimkat／シムカート ビョルン

Bjoern Schimkat／シムカート ビョルン

Born in Germany in 1981. Living in Japan since 2007. He has been working at Amnesty International Japan since 2017, mainly in charge of climate change and human rights, urgent domestic and international human rights issues, and support for youth activities.

1981年ドイツの生まれ。2007年から日本に滞在。2017年からアムネスティ・インターナショナル日本に勤務、主に気候変動と人権、国内外お緊急人権問題、そしてユースの活動支援に取り組む。
