Drop the charges against Georgia Fort and the other press individuals
I am writing to express deep concern about the prosecution of Georgia Fort and other members of the press for simply covering a protest in Minneapolis on 18 January 2026. It is evident that the arrest and subsequent prosecution of Georgia Fort and others from the press underscores a disturbing escalation of a systemic disregard for human rights.
As I am sure you are aware, Article 19 of the International Covenant for Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which the United States has ratified, enshrines the right to freedom of expression, which protects a free press and the right of journalists to seek and share information. However, for the Department of Justice to prosecute Georgia Fort and other individuals from the press with criminal charges, including a hate crime, for reporting on a protest inside Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota --where one of the pastors was an acting ICE field office director at the time-- is to target them for simply doing their job as journalists and breaches their human rights.
Reporting is not a crime. Rather, ensuring the exercise of the right to freedom of expression and of press freedom is integral to holding government officials and leaders accountable for their actions. These charges deliver a chilling and intimidating effect on journalists who are covering issues that are most pressing to communities.
I therefore strongly urge that you drop the charges against Georgia Fort and the other press individuals in the case of United States v. Levy Armstrong (0:26-cr-00025) in the District Court of Minnesota.

2026年1月18日にミネソタ州ミネアポリスで起きた抗議活動を報道したがために、ジョージア・フォートさんをはじめとする報道関係者が起訴されたことについて、深い懸念を表明します。 ジョージア・フォートさんたち報道関係者の逮捕と起訴は、人権に対する組織的な軽視が深刻化していることを物語っています。
米国が批准している「市民的及び政治的権利に関する国際規約（ICCPR）」の第19条には、表現の自由の権利が明記されています。これは報道の自由や、ジャーナリストが情報を収集し、共有する権利を保護するものです。
しかし、教会内での抗議活動について報道したことを理由に、司法省がジョージア・フォートさんをはじめ報道関係者に対してヘイトクライムを含む刑事告発を行うことは、ジャーナリストとしての職務を遂行したというだけでジョージアさんたちを標的にするものであり、彼女や彼らの人権を侵害するものです。
報道は犯罪ではありません。むしろ、表現の自由と報道の自由の行使を保障することは、政府高官や指導者に自らの行動について説明責任を問う上で不可欠な要素です。ジョージアさんたちに対する起訴は、地域社会にとって最も差し迫った問題を報道しているジャーナリストを萎縮させ、威圧する効果をもたらします。
ついては、ミネソタ州連邦地方裁判所の「米国対レヴィ・アームストロング事件（0:26-cr-00025）」において、ジョージア・フォートさんとその他の報道関係者に対する起訴を取り下げるよう、強く要請します。

I am writing to request the immediate release of Leqaa Kordia, a 32-year-old Palestinian Muslim woman being held in detention in Texas and facing deportation by the Trump administration due to its crackdown on peaceful protesters for Palestinian rights.
Leqaa has been detained by U.S. immigration authorities since March 13, 2025. Since 2023, she has actively participated in several protests in New Jersey and nearby areas, advocating against Israel's genocide in Gaza, where she has lost approximately 175 family members.
Ms. Kordia's arrest and ongoing arbitrary detention are a part of the continued attacks on human rights by the Trump administration. Targeting peaceful protesters and threatening their immigration status for the content of their protest, such as advocating for the human rights of Palestinians, is a violation of the rights to freedom of expression and assembly. This targeting sends a chilling message to people across the country that anyone exercising their human rights will be subject to repression, detention, and possible deportation.
Leqaa's rights to freedom of expression, association, and assembly have been violated, and while in detention, she has suffered violations of her rights to practice her religion. She should be released immediately to her family.

レカさんは2025年3月13日以降、米国の移民当局によって拘束されています。2023年以降、レカさんはニュージャージー州および周辺地域で行われた複数の抗議活動に積極的に参加し、ガザにおけるイスラエルのジェノサイドに反対する声を上げてきました。レカさんはガザで約175人の親族を失っています。
レカさんの逮捕と不当な拘束は、トランプ政権による人権に対する攻撃の一環として行われています。パレスチナ人の人権擁護という抗議内容を理由に、平和的な抗議を行った人を標的とし、移民資格を脅かすことは、表現の自由および集会の自由に対する権利の侵害です。こうした対応は、人権を行使する者は誰であれ、弾圧や拘束、さらには強制送還の可能性に直面することになるという、人びとを萎縮させるための深刻なメッセージを広く発することにほかなりません。
レカさんは、表現の自由、結社の自由、集会の自由だけでなく、その拘束中、宗教を実践する権利も侵害されています。レカさんは直ちに家族のもとへ釈放されるべきです。
