イランの人権派弁護士ナスリン・ソトゥデさんが、実刑38年とむち打ち148回の判決を言い渡され、投獄されています。
イランでは、女性が公共の場で「ヒジャブ」を着用することが義務化されており、ヒジャブの強制に抗議しただけで逮捕や起訴をされた女性たちが多くいます。ナスリンさんはこうした女性たちの弁護を引き受けていました。それが公共の秩序を乱す反体制の活動だとされてしまったのです。
ナスリンさんが逮捕されてからちょうど1年となった2019年6月13日、ナスリンさんの釈放を求めて、世界中で一斉にイラン当局に署名を提出しました。日本の約4800筆を含め、200以上の国と地域で計1,188,381筆の署名が集まりました。
そのナスリンさんから、今回、署名に参加してくださった方々へ手紙が届きましたので、 紹介いたします。
ナスリンさんからの手紙
みなさんのご支援に心から敬意を表します。今、この手紙をテヘランのエビン刑務所で書いています。
みなさんが、正義と囚人の権利が保障される世界の実現に向け、何年も取り組まれてきたことを承知しています。
光栄にも今、私もみなさんからの温かい支援を受けています。私の子どもたちは幼くして母親が投獄されるという苦境に耐えなければなりません。みなさまにお伝えしたいことは、みなさんの支援やさまざまな活動は、私だけでなく私の子どもたちにも、みなさんとの絆を感じさせてくれているということです。
だからこそ、みなさんの活動に感謝の気持ちをお伝えすることは、私にとって、とても大事なことなのです。
私はこれまで、弁護士として人権活動家として、見返りを期待することなく、その勤めを果たしてきました。そして、今、人権擁護という価値観を共にするみなさんの支援を受ける幸運を感じています。
私には不正な状況を前にして沈黙という選択肢はない、ということは申し上げるまでもありません。今は刑務所にいますが、獄中で耐えること以上に社会の不正にあまんじることの方が、私には耐え難いのです。
社会の正義と公正な裁判に対する信念は、今も変わりはありません。また、今、直面するような困難をすでに乗り越えてきた数多くの人たちと同様、自由と正義に対する私の思いは、いささかの揺るぎもありせん。そのことをここであらためて確認させていただきたいのです。
末筆ながら、みなさんへの深い感謝の気持ちをお伝えするとともに、みなさんの支援があるからこそ、世界のさまざまな地で人権活動が成り立っているということを今、再確認していることを申し添えておきます。

Dear Friends,
Please accept my warm regards from Evin prison in Tehran.
I know that you have undertaken efforts for many years to establish justice and ensure prisoners' rights. I am honoured to have enjoyed your generous support too. I want you to know that your support and creative actions have provided a sense of solidarity, not just for me, but also for my children, who have had to endure their mother's imprisonment from an early age. It is, therefore, important for me to express my gratitude and appreciation for your kind acts of solidarity.
I have always carried out my work as a lawyer and human rights defender without any expectations, and I know that I have enjoyed your support based on our shared principle of protecting human rights.
Let me tell you that, for me, staying silent in the face of injustice is not an option. It is far more challenging for me to endure such injustice in society than to endure imprisonment itself.
Even now, I hold steadfast to my vision of justice and fair trials and I would like to reassure you, my dear friends, that like the thousands of other people who have walked this path before me, I will remain loyal to these principles of freedom and justice.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to you again, my dear friends, and acknowledge that it is your support that is making these movements for human rights possible in different corners of the world.
